Beauty on a Budget! DIY Deep – Cleaning Makeup Brushes

Beauty

Hello there!

Today, we’re going to be environmentally conscious and economically savvy :).

ALL that in ADDITION to deep-cleaning your makeup brushes!

Sounds good, doesn’t it?

So let’s begin!

THE CAST OF CHARACTERS:

(top left) Shampoo (I used this one because I couldn’t find my baby shampoo. It works!)

(top right) An object higher in elevation than the brushes (It’ll make sense later)

(bottom left) An empty jar

(bottom right) Dirty brushes and a small towel

THE STEPS:

1.) Pump a quarter-size dollop of shampoo into the jar

2.) Pour in hot water from the faucet into the jar, stimulating the shampoo to bubble

You want just enough so that placing the brushes inside won’t cause a flood

3.) Place the brushes inside and let soak for a few seconds

4.) Swirl one brush at a time against the jar’s bottom to knock out makeup product

5.) Rinse the bristles quickly and set aside on the small towel

6.) Repeat until all brushes are squeaky clean

7.) Place the higher object in the center of the towel, then place the brushes with the handles leaning against the object so the bristles touch the towel

This makes sure no residual water stays in the brush handle and causes rusting/damage to the brush

8.) Wait to dry, then use the brushes to your heart’s content!

I love how these few steps allow me to save time (washing) and money (shampoo), as well as water (because most of it is in the jar)!

If you’re more of a visual person than a person of “the written word,” feel free to click any of the pictures in this post and get directed to the video I created to communicate the deep-cleaning process.

Play some fun music and make this time fun! 🙂

Happy Thursday or Friday to you, everyone!

And if you’re reading this not on one of those days, then greetings from the past!

Ever since  I watched Frozen, it has somehow been a part of my life.

Friends saying clever snippets from the script in reference to normal life.

Really, really wanting to build a snowman.

Buying the soundtrack as soon as it was on a lightning deal sale on Amazon (15% off!!) – thank you, friend! : )

I think you get the gist!

still

And so, I decided to do a makeup look inspired by HyoRin of the kpop group Sistar, who sang her rendition of the song with a lovely, subtle makeup look that I really liked. The purity and simplicity really caught my eye, and the silver reminded me of, well, a snowflake!

The clustered necklace of ostentatious faux pearls, diamonds, and silver chain was the closest item I could grasp that reminded me of the snow that “glows white on the mountain tonight”… which might not be the ideal accessory for snow, but…

Let it go!

Hehe.

I feel like it really brightens up the face and provides a healthy glow, yet maintains some semblance of natural makeup. Like, a close relative. Maybe a cousin?

Hello there!

I thought I’d do something different on the blog and introduce to you another hobby of mine: YouTube! The planning, filming, editing, and execution of videos excites me, and I hope to share that with you today : ).

So with that, let me start again:

Hello, everyone, meet my YouTube!

My YouTube, meet everyone.

: )

There, now we are acquainted!

Hopefully, we will soon become friends.

Fun Fact! The username (jessicaxnyao) was inspired by:

1. My name (quite clearly)

2.) My grandpa – he used to say “nyao” (similar to a cat’s meow) quite often as a random expression, and made a living for a lot of his life as an artist. And as he was an artist with the canvas, I would like to become more like an artist with… the face! Hehe. And also with the canvas. But that’s just a tad more difficult, I think.

Below is the latest one I created, inspired by Jessica from SNSD in “Mr. Mr.” – check it out by clicking on the image! I love the slightly-more-out-there-but-not-really look here, and recreating it was such fun!

Stop by if you like and let me know how you enjoyed it!

And of course, have a lovely day!

Love,

Jess
